I often hear that taking toddlers to Disney World isn’t worth it because “they won’t remember it.” Taking them Disney World can be daunting, but trust me, it is SO worth it. The magic in their eyes says it all. Now, with that being said, I won’t deny that it can definitely be stressful bringing them. It’s crowded, often extremely hot, routines are thrown off, and just a lot of stimulation. With patience, preparation, and these tips, you will be able to have a magical vacation with your little ones.
Whether you want your child to meet his or her favorite character, go to Disney while they are still free, or just simply want a fun and memorable family vacation, there are a lot of reason why you might find yourself taking a toddler to Disney. The memories made are so sweet and special, so go for it, take them to Disney even if they are still little.
I have two toddlers, and I have figured out some of the best things to do when taking toddlers to Disney World.
25+ Tips to Remember when Taking Toddlers to Disney World
Plan Ahead of Time
No matter if you are taking toddlers to Disney or not, you should be planning out your Disney trip ahead of time. When going with little ones, it is especially important. Have an idea of what your “must do’s” are and schedule your days around those.
Don’t Overbook your Days
There is so much to see and do in Disney World, so it can be tempting to want to do it all, especially if it’s your first visit. When taking toddlers, be realistic about how much they will be able to handle in a day. Rope drop to fireworks, may not be the best. Allow times for rest and less structured activities.
Utilize Baby Care Centers
Although baby is in the title, the Baby Care Centers are perfect for those taking toddlers to Disney as well. Baby Care Centers are located in each of the four Disney theme parks and offer a place to change diapers, use a family restroom for those potty training, a spot to watch TV, a place to buy some essentials, or simply a cool spot to relax.
Look up Food Menus Ahead of Time
Prior to booking dining reservations, or thinking about where to stop in the parks for food, look up the menus ahead of time. It is very simple to do on the My Disney Experience App . Most restaurants offer the standard kid friendly fare, but some don’t. I find toddlers prefer simple and more familiar foods when thrown into new situations, so take that into consideration.
Water Features and Splash Pads
Throughout the theme parks, there are many different interactive water features or splash pads for kids to enjoy. This is a great way to cool off in the heat, get some energy out, or just have some good ol’ fun playing in the water.
Know Which Characters are Available and Where
If your toddler has a character that they love, make sure they are available for a meet and greet prior to telling them they get to meet them. I know there are a lot of favorites on Disney Plus, but unfortunately, not all of them are in the parks, such as Bluey.
Know Height Requirements
Height requirements are readily available on the My Disney Experience App. Unfortunately not all rides that are themed around movies that are popular among toddlers have no height requirement. For example, Slinky Dog Dash seems cute in theory, but in reality it is a roller coaster with a 38 ” height requirement.
Bring Extra Clothes into the Parks
Whether it’s because of expected toddler messes or from splashing around in the splash pads, you are going to want those extra clothes! The Baby Care Centers offer a great place for changing.
Try Calmer Rides First
Take toddlers on slower and more mild rides prior to those that are more intense or more stimulating. You may think they are up for something more “fun,” but is always good to start slow. Have them work their way up to prevent them from getting overwhelmed, nervous, and then ultimately not want to get on any ride at all. And honestly, some of the slower rides are the best ones at Disney, they bring back that classic Disney feel that Walt originally envisioned.
Character Dining
Character dining is a great way to ensure your toddlers get to meet some their favorite characters. I know it can be intimidating with the price, but many have all-you-care-to-enjoy style platters, kids under the age of three eat for free, and you don’t have to spend the money on genie plus to skip the lines to meet the characters in the parks.

Mid Day Breaks are Important when Taking Toddlers to Disney
It can be tempting to want to make the most of your day and stay in the parks from rope drop until the fireworks, but this can lead to some overtired little ones. Especially if you are planning to do more than one park day. Getting out of the parks in the middle of the day for a rest or even some pool time is great.
Consider the Resort you Choose to Stay at
If you are staying on Disney World property at one of the Resorts, consider the location, transportation available, and theming. Some Resorts are closer to the theme parks than others. Buses, the Monorail, boats, and the Skyliner are different forms of transportation offered at various Resorts. All of the Resorts have unique and immersive theming, but some may be more fun for toddlers. For example, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort has different sections dedicated to The Little Mermaid, Finding Nemo, The Lion King, and Cars. All of the Resorts are very child friendly, but if you want a fun and immersive experience for your toddler, then take that into consideration.
Bring a Stroller
Even if your toddler doesn’t always use a stroller at home, still bring one! They are going to get tired and hot, so a stroller is the perfect spot to let them get off their feet, nap, or just relax. When you aren’t using it, there is plenty of designated stroller parking throughout the parks. Not to mention, strollers are a great way to store all the things you will need (or buy…) during the day.
Bring Toys From Stores at Home for Souvenirs
If you know your child is going to want all of the new toys they are inevitably going to see in all of the shops or on the carts with the bubble wands, then maybe bring some from home with you that they have never seen before. There are plenty of Disney toys and bubble wands available at stores like Walmart, Target, and Amazon, so pack them with you and give it to them while you’re on vacation so they feel like they got new toys from Disney.
Here are my tips for saving money in Disney World with Babies and Toddlers
Flexibility
It is so important to be flexible. I know Disney World vacations require a lot of planning and scheduling, but don’t go overboard when going with a toddler. If you don’t get everything done, it is ok. Prioritize things you know they will enjoy the most and they will be so happy.
Take all of the Pictures and Videos
Take all of the videos and pictures you can! There will be so many precious memories you won’t want to forget. You can purchase Memory Maker, but candid pictures are so special.
Bring Snacks into the Parks
It is no secret that toddlers love to snack. Disney does allow outside snacks into the theme parks, which is very helpful. It’s always fun to get the Mickey themed snacks, but sometimes you just need something you know your child will eat at the ready. It will also save you some money, too!
Take Air Conditioning Breaks
Expect to have hot and humid weather almost all year in Disney World. Plan to take plenty of breaks in the air conditioning. All of the shops, restaurants, Resorts, and attractions are air-conditioned, so there is no shortage of cool places to go.
Stick to a Normal Bedtime Routine
When taking a toddler to Disney, it is likely they won’t be going to bed at their regular time every night, but sticking to the same routine, even if it is later, is helpful. Bring some home comforts, give them a nightly bath, or read a book before bed…whatever it may be. Incorporating routine into your vacations helps for a better nights rest for not only them, but you as well. Everyone will be happier all around.
Expect Overwhelming Moments if you are Taking Toddlers to Disney
Toddlers have their moments and meltdowns in every day life, so expect them to happen while in Disney, if not more. Remember, you are not the only ones with a toddler who is upset and grumpy. Just remember to breath and know that they will be happy again soon enough. No one is going to expect your littles to be perfect.
Purchase Genie +
Budget Genie + into your trip if you’re taking toddlers to Disney. Standing in long lines is not ideal for antsy and excited little ones, so Genie + will definitely be worth it! You will be able to snag Lightning Lanes for rides, shows, and even character meet and greets.
Take Advantage of Quick Service Dining
Sometimes quick service dining is the way to go since you don’t have to sit at a table and wait for your food. Simply mobile order ahead of time and then as soon as your kids are sitting down, their food is ready to eat! Perfect for when they say they’re hungry and NEED to eat right away (I know we have all been there).

Take Rest Days Outside of the Parks
Take advantage of Resort amenities, Disney Springs, the water parks, or just time to relax. Not every day of your Disney Vacation needs to be a busy park day. It’s a great way for toddlers, and you, to reset from all of the overstimulation the parks can sometimes bring.
Take advantage of Early Entry if you are a Resort Guest
If you have a toddler who is an early riser, then take advantage of Early Entry offered to those guests staying at a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel. The parks are open thirty minutes earlier for these guests and lines are shorter for all of the attractions.
They Might Need Naps Even if They Don’t Nap Anymore at Home
Disney World is exhausting for adults, so imagine how tired little ones are! Some may need a nap even if they don’t usually take one anymore.
All of the Parks are Toddler Friendly, Not Just Magic Kingdom
Plan to visit all of the four theme parks when taking toddlers to Disney World. All have great attractions for little ones. I have toddler ride and attraction guides for each park available here:
- Magic Kingdom Toddler Ride Guide
- EPCOT Toddler Ride Guide
- Ultimate Guide to Disney’s Animal Kingdom with a Toddler
- Ultimate Guide to Hollywood Studios with a Toddler
Enjoy Other Attractions, not Just Rides
Disney World has so many fun shows in all of the theme parks, and many are even aimed towards toddlers. Look on the My Disney Experience App each morning for the days showtimes.
They are FREE if They are Under the Age of Three
If your toddler or baby is under the age of three, they do not need a theme park ticket! They also can eat for free at restaurants, too.
Use Baby Carriers if they still Fit in Them
Baby carriers are a game changer. Whether for taking naps, just needing comfort, or tired feet, my toddlers relied on baby carriers. I love a good structured baby carrier for younger toddlers and carriers like the Tush Baby are great for those that are older and don’t need to be strapped on to you.
Patience is Key When Taking Toddlers to Disney
This may go without saying, but it is important. When taking toddlers to Disney World, you need to have patience. They are going to be thrown into a new environment that can be overstimulating. Melt downs are expected and you will not be the only parent dealing with them, I promise. Be patient and so many magical memories will still be made!
Disney World is a magical place for a family vacation. Enjoy all of the moments and memories. I’m not promising that your trip will be perfect and completely stress free, because hey, that’s simply life with toddlers, BUT, these tips and tricks should help a lot.
